How much can I make?

The amount of money that you can earn in the microstock industry depends entirely on three factors-

  • Quality
  • Useability as Stock
  • Quantity

There are images that earn $5.00 per year and there are images that earn $5.00 per week ($260.00 per year). You must establish a decent sized portfolio of quality images in order to sustain consistent sales. Your initial goal as a contributor to the microstock sites should be 100 images in your portfolio. This affords you the best opportunity to evaluate your photographs/illustrations based on their saleability as stock images. Remember, unless you enter into an exclusive agreement with a microstock site, you may sell the same image on multiple sites. This maximizes exposure for your images and is a highly recommended practice.

This is a great example of a typical stock image.

It has been available for one year as microstock on four different sites. This image has been sold 220 times, generating commissions totaling $88.58. A decent portfolio should average $8.00-$15.00 per image each year. Please review Good Stock/Bad Stock for tips on creating saleable images.
